What To Wear On Arran?
Most visitors to Arran, coming to the Island anytime between the months of April and October, should expect a range of potential weather types, even on a short trip.

The Island, sitting to the west of Scotland, lies close to the Atlantic from which a significant amount of weather arrives throughout the year-wind and precipitation. However, it is not uncommon and especially in Spring and late Summer for large high-pressure systems to develop over Scandinavia and the North Sea extending westward and delivering quite a different weather regime: warm, sunny still days (c.f. blog on midgies).
In practical terms and pretty much in any month, plan for temperatures which can range between 12 and 24C and variable amounts of wind and rain. To be clear the island is beautiful with the variation in light and weather playing an important part of its special beauty, but the visitor needs to pack in anticipation of this variation so that it can be enjoyed to the full.

A packing list of clothing items might therefore look like: water proof jacket and trousers, fleece, lightweight long out-door style trousers, sun hat and cream, sunglasses, rugged footwear (boots or walking style trainers) and a rucksack to accommodate the differing layers as and when they are required.Â
